Understanding Rosacea: What Is It and How Can It Be Treated?

Hey, I want to talk about something I see a lot in my clinic — rosacea. It’s one of those things that many people don’t even realise they have, and even if they do, they’re often not sure how to treat it or if it can be managed. I’m always amazed when my clients start presenting during a treatment and they tell me they don’t have rosacea (or so they think!) So, let me explain...
What Is Rosacea?
Rosacea is a common skin condition that often starts as redness or flushing on your cheeks, nose, chin, or forehead. It can be really subtle at first, just looking like you’re blushing a bit more than usual, but over time, it can become more noticeable. You might start to see tiny blood vessels on your face, bumps that look a bit like acne, or even notice your skin feeling warm or irritated.
How and When Do You Get It?
Rosacea usually shows up between the ages of 30 and 50, but it can appear earlier or later too. It tends to be more common in people with fair skin, but anyone can get it. The exact cause isn’t fully understood, but it’s thought to be a combination of genetics and environmental factors. Things like sun exposure, stress, spicy foods, alcohol, and even temperature changes can trigger or worsen rosacea.
Menopause and Rosacea
I do find that most of my clients tell me their rosacea started once they started experiencing menopause. In my experience, this seems to be a significant trigger for rosacea. The hormonal changes during menopause can make your skin more sensitive and reactive. As estrogen levels fluctuate, the blood vessels in your skin can become more prone to dilation and redness, leading to increased flushing, sensitivity, and other common rosacea symptoms. So, if you’re going through menopause and noticing more redness or changes in your skin, it’s probably rosacea.
What to Look Out For
The key signs of rosacea are:
Persistent redness or flushing, especially in the middle of your face.
Visible blood vessels.
Small, red, acne-like bumps that might be mistaken for pimples. Sometimes they can have pus in them.
A stinging or burning sensation, particularly when using certain skincare products or during a flare-up. If you do have rosacea, I can always tell during a treatment as it starts to flare up. But don’t worry, it’s only temporary.
If you notice any of these symptoms, it might be time to consider whether rosacea could be the cause!
How to Treat Rosacea
Treating rosacea can be tricky because it’s a condition that doesn’t just go away on its own, and while it’s not something you can cure completely, you can absolutely manage it and keep it under control. One of my favourite treatments for rosacea is using Derma 2.0 Bio through either microneedling or mesotherapy.
What Is Derma 2.0 Bio?
Derma 2.0 Bio is a powerful, all-natural skin booster designed to rejuvenate and repair the skin. It’s packed with a blend of hyaluronic acid, amino acids, vitamins, polynucleotides, and antioxidants—all the things your skin needs to heal, hydrate, and rebuild itself. The hyaluronic acid provides deep hydration, which is crucial for calming irritated skin and reducing redness, while the polynucleotides, amino acids and vitamins support collagen production and skin repair.
Microneedling: This technique involves creating tiny punctures in the skin, which helps to stimulate your skin’s natural healing process. When I use Derma 2.0 Bio with microneedling, the bioactive ingredients are delivered directly into the deeper layers of your skin. This helps to strengthen the skin’s barrier, reduce redness, and improve overall skin texture. Over time, you’ll notice your skin becoming less reactive and more resilient.
Mesotherapy: This is another fantastic option where we inject tiny amounts of Derma 2.0 Bio directly into the skin. It’s like giving your skin a deep drink of all the good stuff it needs to calm inflammation, boost hydration, and repair the skin’s barrier. This treatment can be especially effective if your rosacea is more severe or widespread.
Derma 2.0 Bio is particularly effective for rosacea because it works on multiple levels—hydrating the skin, reducing inflammation, and repairing the skin’s barrier function. This means less redness, fewer flare-ups, and a calmer, more even skin tone. And, as you will read in my other blog posts, there are loads of other amazing benefits, one of the most appealing being that it makes you look younger (woohoo!).
My Miracle Worker Facial Oil
I also swear by my own Miracle Worker Facial Oil for treating rosacea. This oil is packed with a blend of nourishing oils and essential oils that are specifically chosen for their calming and healing properties. Oils like rosehip, jojoba, castor oil, lavender and chamomile work together to soothe inflammation, reduce redness, and support your skin’s natural barrier. – along with a load of other amazing (all natural) ingredients. It’s a perfect companion to the Derma 2.0 treatments, helping to maintain your results and keep your skin calm and hydrated in between sessions. Or, if you’re not a fan of oil, you can use Derma 2.0 Bio Moisturiser. It’s loaded with hydrating hyaluronic acid to keep your skin plump and calm, while polynucleotides and peptides work to repair and strengthen your skin’s barrier, making it more resilient against redness and irritation. Niacinamide helps to reduce inflammation and improve texture, and the antioxidants and aloe vera soothe and protect your skin, reducing flare-ups. Regular use of this moisturiser will leave your skin healthier, less reactive, and beautifully radiant. It’s particularly good for using during the day if you don’t like the look or feel of oil. The oil is definitely a must for the night time, though!
Is Rosacea Permanent? Can You Ever Get Rid of It?
Here’s the thing—rosacea is a chronic condition, meaning it’s something you’ll likely need to manage over the long term. But with the right treatments and skincare routine, you can significantly reduce the symptoms and keep flare-ups to a minimum. While you might not be able to get rid of it completely, you can definitely get it to a point where it’s hardly noticeable and doesn’t impact your confidence. In fact, I’m very confident you will love your skin if you follow my advice, and it’ll probably be the best it’s ever been.
So, if you think you might be dealing with rosacea or you just want to take better care of your skin, let’s chat. We can find the best approach for you, whether that’s a series of treatments with Derma 2.0 Bio or simply getting started with my Miracle Worker Facial Oil.
