If you’ve heard about dermaplaning and are wondering if it’s right for you, I’ve got you covered. I I want to chat about what dermaplaning is, why you might want to leave it to a pro (like me!), and what to expect from the treatment. Think of this as your go-to guide to for dermaplaning!

What Is Dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning is a skincare treatment where a trained professional uses a special tool to gently remove dead skin cells and peach fuzz from your face. It’s like giving your skin a fresh start! This helps to:

  • Smooth Out Your Skin: It gets rid of dull, dead skin cells, revealing a brighter, smoother layer underneath.

  • Improve Skin Texture: By removing surface debris, it helps to even out your skin texture, making it look more radiant and polished.

  • Enhance Product Absorption: Without that top layer of dead skin, your skincare products can penetrate deeper and work more effectively.

Why Come to Me Instead of Using At-Home Tools?

You might see dermaplaning tools on the shelves or online, but here’s why it’s best to come to me, a qualified and experienced practitioner:

  • Expertise: I’ve got the training and experience to perform dermaplaning safely and effectively. I know how to handle the tools and customise the treatment for your skin type.

  • Precision: Professional tools and techniques ensure the best results without risking nicks or cuts, which can happen with at-home tools if not used correctly. I’ve experienced this myself! I’ll be honest – I used to use the tools you buy in the shops and I frequently cut my face. Oops!

  • Sanitation: In a professional setting, everything is sterile and hygienic, reducing the risk of infections or complications.

Who Can Have Dermaplaning?

Most people can benefit from dermaplaning, but here are some things to consider:

  • Good for Most Skin Types: It’s ideal for those with dull skin, uneven texture, or fine peach fuzz. It can be great for reducing the appearance of fine lines and making your skin look glowing. How, you ask?  This exfoliation encourages the natural renewal of skin cells, leading to fresher, newer skin that appears more even and radiant. By evening out the skin texture, dermaplaning makes fine lines less noticeable and enhances the absorption of skincare products, allowing anti-aging treatments to work more effectively. Overall, it creates a smoother surface that helps diminish the visibility of fine lines and improves the skin's overall appearance.

  • Not for Everyone: If you have active acne, rosacea, or certain skin conditions, dermaplaning might not be suitable. It’s best to consult with me first to ensure it’s right for you.

What to Expect During the Treatment

When you come in for your dermaplaning appointment, here’s what will happen:

  • Consultation: We’ll chat about your skin and any concerns you might have. I’ll explain the process and answer any questions.

  • Preparation: I’ll cleanse your skin to remove any makeup or impurities.

  • Dermaplaning: Using a sterile, surgical-grade blade, I’ll gently remove dead skin cells and peach fuzz. It’s completely painless, though you might feel a slight tickling sensation. Most of my clients say that they find it really relaxing.

  • Aftercare: I’ll apply soothing products to calm your skin and give you some tips on how to care for your skin afterward. My favourite product to use after dermaplaning is Medisco Skin Glow face mask. It’s packed full of collagen and polynucleotides. It’s really soothing for the skin but it also leaves it glowing like never before! Honestly, you’ll be amazed, your skin will be absolutely glowing!

Common Myth Busting

Let’s clear up some common myths about dermaplaning:

  • Myth: It Will Make Your Hair Grow Back Thicker: Not true! Dermaplaning only removes the fine, vellus hair (peach fuzz). It won’t change the thickness or growth rate of your hair.

  • Myth: It’s Painful: It’s actually quite comfortable, and most of my clients find it really relaxing. You might feel a bit of tingling or tickling, but it’s generally a gentle process.

  • Myth: It’s Only for Women: Not at all! Dermaplaning can benefit anyone who wants smoother, brighter skin.

So, if you’re looking for a way to give your skin a fresh, glowing boost, dermaplaning could be just what you need. And remember, coming to a skilled professional like me ensures you get the best results safely and effectively. If you’re curious or want to book a session, let’s have a chat! I’m here to help you get that radiant, smooth skin you’ve been dreaming of.
